Project Profile

Location: Blocks 43/21b and 43/22c in the UK sector of the North Sea
Production: 8.8 MMcf/d (million cubic feet per day)
Water depth: 54 metres

The Carna gas field is located on Blocks 43/21b and 43/22c in the UK sector of the North Sea in 54 metres of water.

On Dec. 26, 2008, the Carna well was spudded by the ENSCO 92 jackup and reached a total measured depth of 3,505 metres. The well was designed to test a Carboniferous fault block when a gas reservoir was discovered following a mechanical sidetrack. Electric logs indicated the well intersected a gas bearing Namurian Millstone Grit formation at 3,057 metres with indications of formation gas seen from mudlogs down to 3,487 metres. The gas column was in excess of 454 metres TVD with a net pay of 39 metres TVD. Following a production test, the discovery well flowed gas at stabilized rate of 8.8 MMcf/d on a 48/64-inch choke from a vertical well penetrating the Carboniferous.
