Project Profile

Location: Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Russia
Current gas production: 11 billion cubic feet/day
Estimated reserves: 171.5 trillion cubic feet
Discovery: 1972
Production start-up: 2012

The Bovanenkovskoye gas field is a natural gas field located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Russia. It was discovered in 1972 and developed by Gazprom. It began production in 2012 and produces natural gas and condensates. The total proven reserves of the Bovanenkovo gas field are around 171.5 trillion cubic feet, and production is stated to be around 11 billion cubic feet/day in 2010. The Bovanenkovo gas field is part of the Yamal project.

The Cenomanian-Aptian deposits are a paramount development target at Bovanenkovskoye. Gas production is planned at 115 billion cubic metres annually. Overall, there will be three upstream facilities in operation. Two of them have been already brought online: the first one – in 2012 (planned output – 60 billion cubic metres of gas per year), the second one – in 2014 (30 billion cubic metres). Gas production is increased gradually, depending on the market demand. In future, Bovanenkovskoye is to see gas extraction ramped up to 140 billion cubic metres per year through the development of Neocomian-Jurassic deposits.

In order to feed gas from Yamal into the Unified Gas Supply System (UGSS) of Russia, Gazprom is building a new gas transmission corridor from Bovanenkovo to Ukhta. The Bovanenkovo – Ukhta gas pipeline became operational in 2012 and Bovanenkovo – Ukhta 2 came onstream in 2017.
