The Juliet field is located in the UK Southern North Sea some 40km due east from the Humberside estuary in 62m of water. The field is located approximately 9km to the south of the Amethyst gas field. Block 47/14b (Licence P614) was originally awarded in 1987 and following various changes in licence interests, GdF Suez (now ENGIE), as operator, together with First Oil, drilled the first well on the licence, 47/14b-10, in December 2008 which led to the successful Juliet discovery.  The discovery was deemed commercial and ENGIE immediately embarked on development planning in 2009.  In September 2010 Hansa acquired a 19% equity interest from First Oil in Block 47/14b in return for a development carry.

The well was drilled by the Noble Piet van Eide jackup to a total depth of 2,896 metres in 2008. A production test was performed on the 47/14b-10 well, and it flowed at a rate of up to 38 MMcf/d. Juliet was deemed commercially successful shortly later.
