Project Profile
Location: PL 431, Norwegian Sea
PL 431 expiry date: 16 August 2013
The T-Rex prospect is located in the Norwegian Sea. The 6406/3-9 probe is targeting lower Cretaceous sandstones in the Lange and Lysing formations, which have earlier flowed oil in a test drilled by Statoil in 1991.
Maersk used the semi-submersible rig Transocean Winner for the drilling operations in the licence. The well was spudded in November 2011 in adverse weather conditions. The primary and the secondary targets were disappointing. The well was permanently abandoned on 26 March 2012 as a minor oil discovery.
