Location: PL 405 and 405BS, Norwegian North Sea
Water Depth: 70 m / 231 ft


The Butch prospect lies in Licenses PL 405 and 405BS in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea in a water depth of 230 ft (70 m).

In October 2011, a net oil pay of about 164 ft (50 m) in the Upper Jurassic reservoir of the Ula formation. The consortium will now drill a down-dip sidetrack to assess for additional volumes of oil further down on the large salt-induced structure, and to try to locate the oil-water contact in the well.

The Oda development concept is a tie-in to the Ula field and the discovery is estimated to contain 43 million boe gross.

Maersk Drilling: Drilling using the Maersk Giant

Aibel: Contract to deliver design, engineering and fabrication services

Subsea 7: Contract to provide pipelines, umbilicals and subsea service. Engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) of subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) including the production pipeline, water injection line, umbilical and related subsea services.

DNV GL: Contract to verify the work executed by Aibel and Subsea 7
