Start-up Year: November 2015
The Luno field is situated in Production License 338 on Block 16/1 offshore the Norwegian North Sea in 354 feet (108 metres) of water. Discovered in 2007, light oil was found in the Jurassic reservoir, followed by an appraisal well, 16/1-10, completed in January 2009, confirming the extension of the Luno field to the northeast. The well tested at a flow rate of 4,000 bopd on a 54/64-inch choke. Data confirmed the hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir is complex with both clean sands and conglomerate sections encountered. Appraisal drilling was performed by the Bredford Dolphin semisub, reaching a total vertical depth of 6,972 feet (2,125 metres) below sea level in a water depth of 361 feet (110 metres). The Luno field is estimated to contain 149 MMboe (136.7 million barrels of oil and 66.4 billion standard cubic feet of gas). As of June 2015, the partnership consisted of Lundin Norway as operator with a 50% ownership interest, as well as Wintershall (15%), Statoil (15%) and OMV (20%). First oil from the Edvard Grieg field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea was achieved on November 28, 2015. In May 2016 Statoil entered into an agreement with Lundin Petroleum to divest its entire 15% interest in the Edvard Grieg field, in the central North Sea, for an increased shareholding in Lundin Petroleum. As of May 2016 Lundin Norway as operator has an increased interest with a 65%.
