Project Profile

Value: US$300 million
Location: Block 205/21a West of Shetlands, UK
Start-up Year: early-2019
Upstream Oil Reserves: 523 million barrels (May, 2017)
Water Depth: 200m
Production: 17,000 bpd (Early Production System)

Lancaster is situated in 205/21a, 205/22a and 205/26b West of Shetlands. It was the site of an Hurricane Energy’s first basement discovery in 2009, while a subsequent sidetrack flowed light oil from basement-to-surface. The sidetrack 205 21-a7Z tested at 14,500 stock tank bpd of oil with an electrical submersible pump (ESP) in 2016 . Hurricane Exploration wholly owns and operates the oil prospect. Lancaster will be launched on an early production system in early-2019 from two wells which could produce as much as 8,000 bpd each.

Halifax is situated in 205/22b, 205/23, and 205/24 West of Shetlands. Hurricane drilled a probe at Halifax in March 2017 which proved the basement oil extended beyond structural closures at Lancaster, indicating that the pair are an interlinked and contiguous hydrocarbon discovery. Halifax encountered an oil column measure 1,156 metres which extended below the targeted closure of 1,040 metres. Its oil-down-to (ODT) level of 1,846 metres stretched below the oil water contact (OWC) of 1,678 metres observed at Lancaster, which suggests the area posseses a tiled OWC. Planned testing was cancelled owing to safety, time, and budgetary constraints.

Whirlwind is located on Block 205/21a and 205/22a West of Shetlands, 10 km north of the Lancaster discovery. It was mapped as a large basement structure that is around 2,000 metres deeper than Lancaster, but charged from the same source. Whirlwind flowed light oil/gas-condensate in a hole test over Lower Cretaceous limestones, though it was not possible to determine which intervals were bearing hydrocarbons, nor the composition of hydrocarbons.

The 205/21a-7 well on the Lancaster field, West of Shetland, was spudded on the 6th July 2016, using the Transocean Spitsbergen drilling rig. The well is located on licence P1368 Central in which Hurricane has a 100% interest. (July, 2016)
---------
Petrofac has been appointed well operator by Hurricane Energy in a three-year contract to support wells located in the North Sea, West of Shetland. It is the first outsourced well operator to manage a drilling campaign in the UKCS under new regulations set by the Offshore Safety Directive Regulator. (July, 2016)
