Project Profile

Value: US$7,000 million
Location: Pechora Sea, south of Novaya Zemlya, Russia
Start-up Year: 2011
Upstream Oil Reserves: 550 million bbl
Production: 2,154,000 tonnes of Arctic oil (2016)
Water Depth: 20m

The project will see the development of the field using Hutton TLP, which will be modified. The rebuild and upgrade will include upgrade of the platform\'s power generation unit to increase the output, the addition of crude oil heating and refining facilities, replacement of all internal pipelines and construction of a new, harder gas flaring tower that can withstand icing during winter. The drilling bay will also be upgraded to accommodate 15 development and 20 re-injection wells instead of the TLP\'s current capacity of 32 wells. The field is expected to produce 6.6 million tonnes of oil a year and production at the field is expected to last for 25 years.

The output will be stored in the caisson base, which will have a storage capacity of around 900,000 barrels. Shuttle tankers will transport oil from the platform to the ice-free port of Pechenga, where another storage facility will be built that is capable of handling up to 1.6 million barrels. The field holds up to 550 million barrels and is the first offshore oil field in the Arctic.
