Project Profile

Value: US$192 million
Location: Northern North Sea Block 3/3b, UK
Start-up date: Q4 2016
Reserves: 12 million bbl
Water Depth: 141 m / 465 ft

The Orlando discovery is located in block 3/3b in production license P1606 in the Northern North Sea and the development options are still being considered. The Orlando Field is owned by Iona (Operator 75%) and Atlantic Petroleum subsidiary, Volantis Exploration (25%). Orlando was discovered by Chevron UK Limited in 1989 with the 3/3-11 well and tested at a rate of 3000 barrels per day. The well proved an oil column of 160 feet in the Tarbert and Ness formations. The forecast for the life of the field is estimated at a maximum of 16 years. The Orlando Field will be developed with the drilling of up to two wells (one of which will be a re-entry of the Orlando appraisal well which was drilled in December 2011), two production trees and a manifold, tied back, to the Ninian Central Platform (owned and operated by CNR International (U.K.) Ltd (CNR)), via a 10.8 kilometre 8 inch diameter production pipeline, and a separate power, electro-hydraulic control and chemical umbilical.

Modifications will be made to the host platform (Ninian Central Platform) to support the subsea systems and to receive and process the Orlando fluids. The processed hydrocarbons will be exported via the existing Ninian Pipeline System (NPS) to the Sullom Voe Terminal (SVT) on the Shetland Islands. Offshore work on the field development is expected to commence with modifications to the Ninian Platform, followed by the Orlando Development drilling and then the installation of subsea facilities. In August 2015, the shareholders revised the project and the Orlando 2015-2016 project costs budget was reduced from US$215 million to US$192 million (gross). The revised budget represents an overall saving of US$36 million, or 16%, versus the budget of US$228 million. The operator’s objective is to deliver first oil from Orlando in Q4 2016.
