Project Profile

CAPEX Value: US$1.6 billion (Catcher development)
Location: Central North Sea, UK
FPSO: processing capacity of 60,000 bopd and storage capacity of 650,000 bbl
Production target: 75,000 boepd (2017)
Water Depth: 91m
Start-up Year: Q4 2017

The Catcher Area Field Development involves the joint development of the Catcher, Varadero and Burgman fields located on Blocks 28/9a and 28/10c in the UK Central North Sea.

The Catcher well 28/9-1 was drilled to a total measured depth of 1,591 m, encountering oil bearing reservoir sandstones at 1,402 m at the targeted Cromarty Sandstone level. Initial analysis indicates the discovery is a minimum 73 metres oil column with a calculated net pay of 27 m. Catcher was discovered in August 2010, followed by Varadero in January 2011 and Burgman in March 2011.

The combined field development involves drilling 22 subsea wells, of which 14 production wells and eight water injection wells. All wells will be tied back to a leased FPSO vessel having a processing capacity of 60,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and a storage capacity of 650,000 barrels. The FPSO will be on a 7-year charter with Premier Oil. BW Offshore has assured that first oil from the Catcher development will flow in 2017.

Contractors:

Aibel: Topside engineering services including detailed engineering services for around 7,800 metric tons (8,598 tons) of topsides modules for the Catcher FPSO, with work continuing into 2015 (Aibel’s Singapore office previously performed front-end engineering design for the Catcher FPSO topsides as part of an integrated team with BW Offshore)

Aquaterra Energy: contract to design and build six Drill Centre Templates (DCT)

BW Offshore: Contract to supply the floating production, storage and offloading vessel for the Catcher field

Transocean: Drilling rig

Xodus Group: FEED contract

Subsea 7 S.A.: EPIC services contract, valued in excess of US$460 million by Premier Oil UK Limited, covering the provision of project management, engineering, procurement, construction, fabrication and installation of Catcher’s subsea facilities

Kongsberg Maritime Engineering (KME): Delivery of an Integrated Control and Safety System for the new BW Offshore \"Catcher FPSO\" with the Kongsberg scope of supply for the FPSO includes complete E-House and Electrical Equipment. Kongsberg will supply K-Chief 700 marine automation system for vessel control, K-Safe for fire, gas and safety for Process Shut Down (PSD) and Emergency Shut Down (ESD), K-PRO for process control, and a fire and gas detection system.

Dyna-Mac: Contract worth around US$71.2m to build ten units of floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) topsides modules and one flare tower unit for BW Offshore.

Claxton has successfully installed a high-pressure drilling riser system as part of a multimillion-pound contract for the Catcher area field development in the Central North Sea. The system was installed for Premier Oil’s Catcher area field development, which includes the development of the Catcher, Varadero and Burgman fields in Block 28/09a in the UK’s central North Sea.

Claxton: Contract to provide subsea connector to latch the riser with the subsea wellhead; riser tensioning interface from the riser to the rig’s tension system; all riser handling tools and a suite of custom-designed bolt tensioners, which will facilitate flange make-up. The contract is for three-and-a-half years, with a possible extension.

2H Offshore: Contract to provide riser analysis for the Catcher development

Subcontractors:

Keppel Offshore & Marine: the installation and integration of topside modules for a newbuild floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel. Upon its completion, the FPSO will be deployed to the Catcher Field. (July, 2016)

Tamrotor Marine Compressors (TMC): Delivered a marine compressed air system to BW Offshore’s Catcher FPSO being built in Singapore
