Project Profile

Value: US$989 million
Location: Block 210/24a in the UK Northern North Sea
Estimated Reserves: 45 million barrels
Start-up Year: 2015

The West Rinnes structure in Block 210/24a in the UK Northern North Sea. The structure is found just 5km from the Dana operated Hudson producing oil field and 2.5km from the Melville oil field. The fluid produced was 100% clean oil of good quality with a gravity of approximately 32 degrees API. Initial analysis indicates that the Rinnes oil is very similar in quality to that being produced by Dana at the nearby Hudson oil field.

The development will see subsea trees on the Uist, Harris, Lewis and Barra tied back to the FPSO. The work scope will consist of drilling six production, six water injection wells, one exploration well; the laying of production, water injection and gas lift flowlines and the deployment of an FPSO. The FPSO will have a minimum storage capacity of 300,000 to 400,000 barrels of oil, and will be required to process around 50,000 b/d of liquids and 31 million scf/d of gas.

There will be two trenched lines or two bundled pipelines between the two drill centres and the riser base at the FPSO. The fluids from the wells will undergo processing on the FPSO before being exported via tanker to shore. There will be a gas export pipeline that will also connect the FPSO to the Tern A platform around 12km away. Dana’s development plan for the field will see at least five production and four water injection wells, as well as two exploration wells tied back to a floating production, storage and offloading vessel, with oil to be exported via shuttle tankers. Dana operates Western Isles with a 77% share in partnership with Cieco on 23%.
