Project Profile

Value: US$209 million
Location: Norwegian Continental Shelf
Block: 34/7
Water Depth: 150-220 metres
Exploration start-up: 1987
Production start-up: July 1994

Tordis is an oil field in the Tampen area in the northern part of the North Sea, between the Statfjord and Gullfaks fields. The water depth in the area is 150-220 metres. Tordis comprises four deposits: Tordis, Tordis Øst, Borg and 34/7-25 S. The field has been developed with a central subsea manifold tied-back to Gullfaks C, which also supplies water for injection. Eight separate satellite wells and two subsea templates are tied-back to the manifold. Tordis was discovered in 1987 and came on stream in July 1994. The plan for development and operation (PDO) for Tordis Øst was approved in 1995, for Borg in 1999 and an amended PDO for Tordis (Tordis IOR) in 2005. A subsea separator was installed on the field in 2007.

The reservoirs in Tordis and Tordis Øst consist of Middle Jurassic sandstone in the Brent Group. The reservoir in Borg consists of Upper Jurassic sandstone in the intra-Draupne Formation. The reservoir in 34/7-25 S is in Middle Jurassic sandstone in the Brent Group and in Upper Jurassic sandstone. The Tordis reservoirs lie at a depth of 2,000-2,500 metres. Tordis is produced by pressure support from water injection and by natural aquifer drive. Production from wells on Borg is dependent on pressure maintenance by water injection. Tordis Øst is produced with pressure support from natural aquifer drive. The well stream from Tordis is separated in the subsea facility and transported in two pipelines to Gullfaks C for further processing. The oil is exported by tankers, while the gas is exported via Gassled to Kårstø. Production from Tordis is above expectation due to new wells, high production efficiency, and optimised use of the booster pump.
