Prospective resources: 55 million barrels
Melrose Resources is drilling the South West Kanun-1 exploratory well on License 4218, one of eight blocks that comprise the South Mardin concessions in southeastern Turkey near the border with Syria.
The well is at 399m (1,310 ft), and Melrose will soon set 20-in. casing. The well is to reach planned total depth of 2,591m (8,500 ft). (July, 2011)
It is designed to test a four-way dip closed structure with oil potential in Cretaceous and Ordovician formations. The prospect has combined midrange gross unrisked prospective resources of 55 million bbl with a 19% chance of success.
South West Kanun-1 well did not discover any hydrocarbons and the operator relinquished the field.
