Project Profile

Value: $1040
Startup Year: Uncertain

The project will see the proposed construction of a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to Russia routed along the Caspian Sea coast via Kazakhstan. The pipeline will be capable of transporting around 20 billion cbm of gas per annum (10bcm from Turkmenistan, 10 bcm from Kazakhstan), and will transport Turkmenistani gas north along the Caspian Sea coast and into western Kazakhstan, where it would connect with the CAC near the Kazakh city of Beyneu.

The project is also known as \"Pre-Caspian Pipeline\" or \"East Caspian Gas Pipeline\".

Gazprom has not referred to the project since 2010, and therefore it is presumed to be cancelled altogether or shelved until a later date. Russia has steadily reduced imports of natural gas from Central Asia over the past decade amid sluggish demand growth domestically and in Europe. As such, the Pre-Caspian Pipeline may have been deemed unnecessary.
