The Surgil (Ustyurt) Gas and Chemical Complex is located in Uzbekistan, Russia. The Surgil petrochemical complex project, which is constructed and managed by Lotte Chemical and Uzbekistan’s state-run oil and gas provider, was commenced in 2006 after the heads of Korea and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of agreement (MOU) to form a strategic alliance between the two nations. In the following year 2007, Lotte Chemical, the KOGAS, and GS E&R Corp. formed a consortium to establish a 50:50 joint venture “UZ-KOR” with the state-run Uzbek oil company Uzbekneftegaz National Holding Co. (UNG). Surgil (Ustyurt) gas chemical complex includes five plants on gas separation, production of ethylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, power generation and modern infrastructure facilities. Surgil complex processes 4.5 billion cubic metres of gas and 4 billion tank gas, 387000 polyethylene and 83000 tonnes of polypropylene, as well as 100,000 tonnes of polymerized petroleum and other products. The cost of the project is US$4 billion.
