The field was developed with a well-head platform, production barge and a shuttle tanker. SW terrace development may extend field life to 18 years and add additional reserves. The field is next to existing facilities and the major investment is completed. Life cycle OPEX is estimated US$14 boe over the production life of 10 years.
The Ajapa Field is defined by 46 km² of 1991 3-D seismic data and the discovery well Ajapa-1, TD of 4,140 m (13,582 ft) . This well has 30 m (99 ft) of net oil pay in Miocene sandstones that flowed oil at combined rates of 6,047 bopd and 12.7 mmcfpd from two cased-hole DSTs. Mapping of the good quality 3-D seismic indicates a large fault-bounded Miocene structural closure.
The marginal field license was granted to Brittania-U Nigeria Ltd (B-U) via farm-out from NNPC and Chevron Nigeria in 2004. Syntroleum is the Technical Advisor to Brittania-U.
