The first exploration well at the Zhemchuzhina block in Kazakhstan\'s Caspian sector has detected hydrocarbons. The Zhemchuzhina block covers 895 square kilometres and is found 60 kilometers from the shore of the Mangistau region.

The Zhemchuzhina (Pearl) contract area includes four structures: Tulpar, Khazar, Auezov, and Naryn. The projected recoverable reserves in the block exceed 600 million barrels of oil or about 100 million tonnes. The presence of gas is also anticipated. The recovery operations are projected to produce over 0.5 trillion cubic feet of associated gas.

The Caspi Meruerty Operating Company BV (CMOC) was established on 08 January 2007 in the Netherlands. CMOC shareholders are KazMunayTeniz JSC (40%), Shell EP Offshore Ventures Ltd (40%) and Oman Pearls Company Ltd (20%).
