The project will see two initial phases of development. Phase one relies on gas coming from the Tengiz field; phase two will take gas from the Kashagan field.
Phase 1:
• Plan on 6 bcm per year of dry gas from Tengiz.
• Construction of a gas separation plant at Kulsary to produce ethane and propane
• Construction of a petrochemical plant in Atyrau to produce polyethylene and polypropylene
• Cost $3 billion
Phase 2:
• Plan on 3 bcm per year of dry gas from Kashagan field per annum
• Construction of a gas separation unit in Atyrau
• Extend Atyrau propylene petrochemical plant
The Kazakh Government has created an economic zone in Atyrau for the petrochemical complex. This will give tax preferences for investors in the facility.
