Project Profile
Location: South-eastern Tanzania
Average production: 1.27 mcm per day (October, 2017)
Area: 756 km²
The Mnazi Bay Concession covers a 756km² area in south-eastern Tanzania, bordering Mozambique. In 1981, ENI drilled a shallow water, offshore well and discovered the Mnazi Bay Gas Field. The well was subsequently suspended and abandoned as there was no local demand for natural gas at that time. In 2005, Wentworth re-entered the existing shut-in well (MB-1) and successfully drilled two appraisal wells (MB-2 and MB-3) and one exploration well (MS-1X), all of which encountered hydrocarbons. The fourth and final well discovered the previously unknown Msimbati gas field. Wentworth went on to build two gas processing plants, 27km of 8” pipeline, and an 18MW gas-fired power plant. The production output will initially be used solely for commissioning operations for the new TPDC/GASCO facilities, but is then expected to ramp up rapidly to 70 million cubic feet per day with the connection of two additional wells in October 2015.
Currently Wentworth owns a 41.78%(i) working interest in operations other than exploration on the block together with the operator, Maurel et Prom 38.22%, and TPDC 20%. Wentworth also owns a 52.225%(ii) working interest in exploration operations on the block together with Maurel et Prom’s 47.775% working interest. The 2012 Work Programme is well underway and consists of drilling one exploration well (Ziwani-1), work-overs of MB-2, MB-3, and MS-1X, and drilling one appraisal well or an additional exploration well.
