Project Profile
Value: US$3,010 million
Location: Block 33, North Sea, Norway
Start-up Year: 2001
The Statfjord is situated on the border between the Norwegian and British sectors in the northern part of the North Sea. The Statfjord consists of one field, three satellite fields, and three Condeep concrete production platforms: Statfjord A, B and C. The three satellite fields that make up the Statfjord area are Sygna, Statfjord North and Statfjord East; all three process and export hydrocarbons to the three concrete platforms. In December 2007, thousands of tonnes of oil were spilled into the North Sea during the loading of a tanker at the Statfjord oil field. The spill, estimated at 21,750 barrels (approx 3,000 metric tons), was the country\'s second largest ever. Across 2015, the Statfjord satellites had a rig – the Bideford Dolphin – working on both the maintenance of existing wells and drilling for new production. The increase has persuaded the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy to approve an application for an expanded production permit. Eleven wells were drilled in 2015, and another nine are planned in 2016. Total gross production from the satellite fields is currently more than 10,000 boe/d. Produced gas is exported to customers in mainland Europe and the UK.
