Project Profile
Value: US$3,000 million
Location: Central North Sea, United Kingdom
Reserves: 150 million bbl
Production (peak): approximately 70,000 barrels of oil per day (in 2015)
Water Depth: 113m
Start-up year: 2014
Golden Eagle is in the northern part of block 20/1, a few kilometres south of BG’s Atlantic Field and directly north of the Nexen-operated Buzzard oil field. The area contains estimated recoverable reserves of 150m boe or higher. The crude is sour with lots of hydrogen sulphide. The project will include the drilling and completion of up to 24 wells (seven subsea and 17 platform), the installation of two subsea drilling/production centres, one Pipeline End Manifold, the installation of infield and export pipelines, and the installation of a platform complex. Oil and gas will be processed at the platform complex. The gas will then be exported to the SAGE export line via the Ettrick PEM, while the oil will be exported either to the Forties Pipeline System via a tie-in at the Buzzard field, or to the Flotta Terminal via a tie-in at the Claymore field.
The development will comprise two subsea drilling/production centres and a heavy duty jackup drilling rig over a newly installed wellhead platform that will be bridge-linked to a fixed production/utilities/quarters platform. The satellite drill centres to the north and south will each consist of a subsea pipeline manifold and individual wells, located about 25m apart and tied back to the manifold. Hobby is located in Block 20/1N, approximately 1.5 km west of Golden Eagle. Currently (2014) there are two Golden Eagle wells producing approximately 18,000 barrels of oil per day. The project is expected to reach its peak production rate of approximately 70,000 barrels of oil per day in 2015.
