The South Stream project is aimed at strengthening the European energy security. It is another real step toward executing the Gazprom strategy to diversify the Russian natural gas supply routes. The new gas pipeline system meeting the latest environmental and technological requirements will significantly raise the energy supply security of the entire European continent. 63 billion cubic metres per annum pipeline’s design capacity. The project provides for South Stream’s offshore section to run under the Black Sea from the Russian coast (Beregovaya compressor station) to the Bulgarian coast. Two possible routes are under review for South Stream’s onshore section from Bulgaria – one, northwestwards and the other, southwestwards.

OAO Severstal: Shipments of 813 mm diameter pipes for the South Stream Offshore Pipeline manufactured at the Izhora Pipe Mill, part of Severstal’s Russian Steel division to supply more than 40 thousand tonnes of pipes by the end of the second quarter. Severstal has won two tenders and will supply around 260 thousand tonnes of 813 mm diameter pipes manufactured at the Izhora Pipe Mill for the first and the second strings of the South Stream pipeline system’s offshore section.

Voestalpine Group: Secured third contract to deliver 120,000 tons of sour-gas-resistant, high-strength line pipe plates for the second South Stream pipeline by spring 2015


Sub-contractors:

ShawCor Ltd. (through its pipe coating division, Bredero Shaw): Contract with a value of approximately US$50 million for the concrete weight coating of Line 1 of the South Stream Offshore Pipeline and for coating services for Line 2 of the South Stream Offshore Pipeline (2014 June)

Siemens: Contract to provide telecommunication equipment and automatic process control systems for the Russian and Bulgarian landfalls, and equipment for the central and backup control rooms
