Project Profile

Value: US$1.106 billion
Location: Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Capacity: 8.7 Million ton/yr
Start-up year: 2011

The Rotterdam LNG Terminal project will see the construction of an LNG import terminal. The terminal will be located adjacent to Vopak\'s Rotterdam Oil terminal. The terminal is expected to have an initial throughput capacity of 12 Bcm/yr (8.7 million ton/yr), expanded from 9 Bcm/yr, and will consist of three storage tanks and two jetties. It would also host an estimated 180 ship movements each year. Annual throughput capacity can be increased to 16 Bcm (7.3mtpa) a year in the near future. The initial 9 Bcm per year capacity was booked 3 Bcm/yr each to Dong, Essent and OMV subsidiary EconGas. Shell has committed to a 4 Bcm/yr capacity purchase if Gate is later developed into a 16 Bcm/yr import facility. The LNG tanker “LNG Jupiter” has arrived on January 12, 2012 at the Gate terminal to deliver the first LNG to Eneco.
