Project Profile
Value: US$1106 million
Completion date: 2013
Storage capacity: 4.1 Bcm
Location: Bergermeer, Netherlands
Bergermeer is a depleted onshore field in the Netherlands. The Bergermeer gas storage system project involves turning the Bergermeer field into a storage facility. The process of converting the field into a storage facility involves the drilling of 14 new wells to a depth of 3km, laying 35 km of pipeline and the construction of a gas treatment facility in Alkmaar. The field will have an injection rate of 1 million to 2 million cubic metres/hr and a withdrawal rate of 1.5 million to 2.5 million cubic meters/hr. The facility has storage capacity of 4.1 billion cubic metres, equivalent to the average annual gas consumption of 2.5 million Dutch households.
