Start-up Year and Month: Q4 2012
Water Depth: 292 m
Visund is an oil and gas field located 22 km northeast of the Gullfaks field in the Tampen area of the Norwegian North Sea. The field came on stream in the spring of 1999. Visund North is a separate subsea development about 10 km from the platform. Statoil operates the licence with a 53.2% stake, with partners Petoro (30%), ConcoPhillips (9.1%) and Total (7.7%). The project involves design, fabrication and installation of a 11.5 km subsea production pipeline and installation of a 11.5 km umbilical. The pipeline and umbilical joins the Pan Pandora Template and the Gullfaks C Platform. The wildcat well 34/8-14 S proved gas and oil in the upper sections of the Brent group. The well was drilled into the southern segment of a prospect called Pan/Pandora, which is part of the faulted east flank of the Visund field. The prospect is located within Production Licence 120 and extends into PL 120B. A 115ft gas column was proven above an 82ft oil column. The field’s resources are estimated to between 22m-47m boe.
Visund field shut down production on 06/03/2016 after experiencing problems with the well. The incident occurred due to a build-up of well pressure in connection with the completion of a drilling operation. PSA identified improvement points concerning well barriers, the risk register in DOP documents, and training and drills. Statoil must report on how the non-conformities and improvement points will be dealt with by 18/08/2016, at the latest. (June, 2016)
