Long Son Petrochemical Complex (LSP) project is located on Long Son Island in southern Vietnam (Ba Ria Vung Tau province). LSP is positioned as Vietnam’s first petrochemicals complex. The project was originally scheduled to launch its first products in late 2012.
It was delayed because of site clearance, change of partners and other difficulties. The construction of the complex is expected to start in the second half of 2017 and is expected to take five years, with the project coming into operation in 2021.

The Long Son Petrochemical Complex, also known as the Southern Petrochemical Complex, would be developed at a 4.6 square kilometres (sq. km) site in Long Son Petroleum Industrial Park. The total cost is estimated at US$4.5 billion. The Long Son Petrochemical Complex would be able to turn out 1.6 million tons of olefin per year, depending on the mixture of input material, with technology for flexible grinding of material.
The project also includes other works such as seaport, pier, warehouse and power plant. Royal HaskoningDHV and Portcoast were assigned the feasibiity study and basic design of the seaport facilities.

The design scope included at least 3 jetties for import vessels with feedstock for the plant and for export of liquid petrochemical and chemical products as well a coal vessel receiving facility and a construction quay. In addition, with integrated grinding technology, the project will offer a variety of products including polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), mainly for domestic consumption.
