Project Profile

Bontang LNG
Location: Bontang, Indonesia
Value: US$1.1 billion
Capacity: 22.5 million tonnes per year LNG & 1 million tonnes per year LPG

First operation began in 1977. The facility has eight process trains (A-H), the last of which was completed in June 1999.
The plant has a capacity of 22.5 million tonnes per year, but production has declined because of a lack of available gas.
It is fed by the Badak, Mahakam, Mutiara, Nilam and Samberah gas fields. Mahakam provides the bulk of gas feedstock, but Mahakam’s output will decline to 40.5 mcm per day/oil output to 53,000 bpd in 2017. As a result, cargoes from Bontang LNG are expected to decline by 10% to 160 cargoes from 177 cargoes this year.
