The Lingshui 18-1-1 Field is located next to another deepsea gas discovery Lingshui 17-2, which holds certified proven reserves of more than 100 billion cubic metres. CNOOC deployed the China’s flagship deepwater rig, the Haiyang Shiyou 981, to drill the well. CNOOC is the operator of the Lingshui 18-11 Field with 100% interest. The state-owned offshore oil and gas explorer spudded the Lingshui 18-1-1 exploration well in October 2015 in water depths of 1,688 metres (5,538 feet).
