Project Profile

Location: Ustyurt region of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan
Production: 3.58 million tonnes per year of LNG equivalent or 4.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas
Reserves: 130 million tonnes of LNG equivalent, 120 billion cubic metres of gas
Start-up Year: October 2015

The Project is located within the Ustyurt region of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, a semi-autonomous area in the west of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Karakalpakstan borders with the Republic of Kazakhstan in the north and west, the Navoi region in the east, the Khorezm and Bukhara regions in the south-east and with Turkmenistan to the south. Surgil field was opened in March 2006 and now it is developed by Uzbekneftegaz. Its reserves are estimated to be about 120 billion cubic metres of gas.

Production wells will target production from the Surgil Field gas-condensate reserves contained within Terrigenous deposits of the Middle Jurassic (J2) and Upper Jurassic (J3). Sixteen productive zones (seams) are contained within these deposits (5 Upper Jurassic and 11 Middle Jurassic seams), in depths between 1,590 metres and 3,006 metres. The Surgil Field gas-condensate wells are a vertical design with a maximum depth of 2,950 metres. A total of 3.58 million tonnes a year of LNG equivalent, or 4.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas, will be produced from the offshore project. Of the total, some 560,000 tonnes a year of gas will be transferred to the Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex, located 110 kilometres away, to produce 460,000 tonnes a year of petrochemical feedstock polymers. The Uzbekistan\'s state-run oil and gas company Uzbekneftegaz will buy the remaining gas, equivalent to over 3 million tonnes a year of LNG.
