Both of the M17 and M18 Blocks are located offshore in the Tanintharyi basin of Myanmar in water depths upto 3000 ft. and together encompass total area of 27,600 sq. kms. RIL is the operator of the blocks with a 96% participating interest. United National Resources Development Services Co. Ltd. (UNRD), a Myanmar company, will hold the remaining interest in the block. They are situated adjacent to blocks MD-7 and MD-8 operated by Thailand\'s PTTEP. India believes Myanmar is an important partner to strengthen its energy security, and had previously signed an MoU on co-operation in the petroleum sector in March 2006.
