Start-up Year: 1993

The Tarim Oil and Gas is located in the southern part of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is located in the Tarim Basin, China\'s largest oil and gas-bearing basin. The basin entraps oil and gas resources of both marine and continental facies, which are difficult to tap due to large burial depth (3200-6500m), high formation pressure (34-65MPa for oilfields, and 32-128MPa for gas fields) and high temperature (110-140℃). Exploration of the Tarim basin began in 1952. On November 17, 1988, Lunnan Oil and Gas Field was discovered, marking the start of the large-scale development of Tarim. Four oil and gas field groups of Tazhong, Hade, Lunan and Donghe, three gas enrichment areas of Kuche-Tabei, Tazhongbei and Taxinan, and the Lunan-Yingmaili oil enrichment area have been discovered, which are mainly distributed in the Kuche Depression, Tabei Uplift, Central Uplift, and Taxinan Depression of the Tarim Basin. In the Tarim basin, CNPC has built up the Donghetang Oilfield—China’s first high yield and high abundance marine sandstone oilfield with ultra-deep reservoirs, Hadexun Oilfield—China’s first marine sandstone oilfield and Tazhong-4 Oilfield—China’s first desert oilfield, as well as China’s largest condensate field group—Yaha-Yingmaili. In addition, the Kela-2 Gas Field, a major gas source of the West-East Gas Pipeline, has been built and operated efficiently to guarantee stable supply to the pipeline. In 2013, Tarim Oilfield produced 22.28 billion cubic metres, ensuring reliable gas supply to the West-East Gas Pipelines. China National Petroleum Corporation is the operator of the project with 100% interest.
