The CA2 Deepwater Offshore Block is part of Brunei Darussalam’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in water depths ranging from 1,000 to 2,750 m, about 100km northwest of the coast of Brunei Darussalam. Working alongside with Block CA1, Block CA2 is run by a consortium of PETRONAS Carigali Brunei Ltd (operator), Canam Brunei Oil Ltd. (Murphy), Shell Deep Water Borneo Ltd, ConocoPhillips & Diamond E&P B.V. (Mitsubishi). The main activity in the Block is exploration leveraging knowledge and experience from neighbouring blocks. In 2013, a major gas discovery was made by Petronas in waters off the maritime border shared by Brunei and Malaysia with production potentially expected to start in the first quarter of 2014.
