China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has signed a production sharing contract (PSC) with Shell China Exploration and Production Company Limited (Shell) for Block 35/10 in Yinggehai Basin in the South China Sea. It covers a total area of 1,323 square miles (3,427 square kilometres) with water depth of 262-361 feet (80-110 metres). Shell is to hold a 100% working interest in the block during the exploration phase which will see it conduct 3D seismic and possibly drill a number of exploration wells. Shell will carry costs during the exploration phase. In the event of a commercial discovery, CNOOC has the option to farm into the block to the tune of 51% with Shell retaining operatorship.
