The Tapis oil development lies 118 miles off Terengganu in Malaysia, in southeast Asia, in 209 feet of water. The field development produces an extra-light, low-sulfur crude, and once served as the benchmark for pricing oil cargoes in Australia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. The project includes five fixed platforms, named Tapis A Platform, Tapis B Platform, Tapis C Platform, Tapis D Platform and Tapis E Platform. ExxonMobil is the operator of the project with 30% interest. Crude is loaded to the the Terengganu Crude Oil Terminal in Kerteh, Malaysia.
In 2014, ExxonMobil launched the Tapis Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) project, aimed at utilising water-alternating-gas processes to recover remaining oil reserves by gradually sweeping Tapis\' oil to producing wells. The EOR technique involves cycling between water and gas injection techniques to provide better sweeping.
