Start-up Year: -

Situated on the right bank of Indus River in Pakistan, Kandhkot Gas Field’s reserves are concentrated in the Habib Rahi Limestone, Sui Main and Upper Limestone reservoirs. Though Kandhkot was discovered shortly after Sui, production did not begin until 1983 due to low gas demand. Since the commissioning of the field, consistent efforts are being made to introduce cutting-edge technology at Kandhkot to maximize production. In order to meet demand of contractual delivery volumes of gas sales, development well Kdt- 28(M) is successfully drilled and completed recently. A state-of-the-art gas compression facility of 210 MMscfd has been commissioned. Recoverable Reserves are 1,300 Bcf and 0.40 MMbbl NGL, while daily average production is at 172 MMscf gas and 21 bbl condensate. Pakistan Petroleum Limited is the operator of the field.

In December 2015, PPL inserted a take-or-pay clause into the gas sales agreement (GSA) for Kandkhot with the Guddu thermal power plant. PPL decided to act when it was clear Guddu would not consume its full allocation of 200 mmcfd from Kandkhot, which had curtailed production from the field. GTPS is the sole buyer for Kandkhot, no other power plant is connected to the field via pipeline.

PPL spudded a development well, KDT-40(H), at Kandhkhot in February 2017 which tested at 28 mmcfd post-completion. Another well, KDT-24(M), was spudded in March 2017, while rigs are being mobilised to drill KDT-43(M) and workover KDT-21(H).
