The first well, 118-Ca Voi Xanh, was drilled in May 2011 and did not encounter hydrocarbons.
According to PVN and ExxonMobil, the field will produce the first gas by 2021 and will peak at 10 billion cubic metres per year.
ExxonMobil intends to develop the 150 bcm of natural gas resource in the field and deliver it to the mainland where it will be used to fuel four thermal power plants (TPPs) in Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces beginning in 2023. The TPPs will generate 3,000 MW of power and excess gas (1-3 bcm) will be directed for use in the country\'s refining (Dung Quat Refinery) and petrochemicals sectors.
