Project Profile
Location: Northern end of Sumatra, onshore Indonesia
Drilling depth: 7,893 ft (2,406 m)
Area: 1,680 sq. km
The block contains three undeveloped discoveries (Alur Siwah, Alur Rambong, and Julu Rayeu). In April 2013, the Matang-1 exploration well on Block A Aceh discovered gas and the well is being tested to obtain flow rate and gas quality information. The block is located in the northern end of Sumatra in Indonesia. Medco Energi made a gas discovery with an exploration well on Block A Aceh, onshore Indonesia on the 24th of April 2013. The Matang-1 exploration well was drilled to a depth of 7893 feet and intersected a gross gas column in the Upper Bampo Limestone formation of at least 90 feet, with well partner Premier Oil noting that the base of the gas column had not been encountered. While drilling through the primary reservoir target, losses into the formation and gas influx into the well occurred. As a result, the decision was taken to suspend the well and to test the reservoir interval drilled so far to obtain flow rate and gas quality information.
