Naharkatiya-Barauni Pipeline originally commissioned in 1962 spans over a total length of 1,157 km (from Naharkatiya to Bongaigaon and from Bongaigaon to Barauni in India) with 9 pumping stations and a capacity of 7MMTPA. Oil India Ltd., the current operator and owner of the pipeline with 100% interest, has launched an upgrade project. The project involves upgradation of pumping stations / terminals to reduce operation and maintenance cost and increase the throughput of the system for accommodating the future-flow requirement of up to 8 MMTPA. The project also aims to increase reliability and the life of the pump stations while ensuring compliance of safety and environmental norms. The scheduled mechanical completion of the project is around 24 months (end of 2015).
