Project Profile

Location: Gulf of Cambay, off the western coast of Gujarat in the Arabian Sea
Production: 134 BCF
Start-up Year: November 2002

The gas discovery in “Lakshmi\" field has been developed first, and commercial gas deliveries of “daily contracted quantities” have commenced in 1st of November 2002. The cumulative production till March 2011 was 134 BCF. The consortium has signed a “take-or-pay Gas Sales Agreement” with Gujarat Gas Trading Company Ltd. (GTCL-a subsidiary of British Gas) and Gujarat Paguthan Energy Corporation (a subsidiary of Hong Kong based China Light & Power), a power utility company, with a 615 MW plant at Paguthan in Bharuch district, for offtake of the entire gas production from this field.

In view of decline of gas production, oil was tapped from the lower reservoirs. The Lakshmi oil development plan was implemented during Sep 07 to Mar 08. In the first phase two existing gas wells were converted into oil wells by zone transfer. Two additional new oil wells were drilled thereby augmenting the oil production. A well targeting both oil & gas reservoir was drilled in the Eastern part of Lakshmi Field. Crude oil from the field is sold to Indian Oil Corporation under an existing oil sales contract. Cumulative production of comingled crude oil from Lakshmi Field was 9.67 MMBO up to March 2011.
