Block CA1 is located about 100 kilometres northwest of the coast of Brunei, covers an area of more than 5,850 square kilometres in the deepwater areas, with depths ranging from 1,000 to 2,750 metres. Total is the operator of the field with 54% interest, BHP Billiton holds a 22.5% interest, Hess a 13.5% interest, PETRONAS Carigali a 5% interest and Murphy Oil a 5%. Hess was awarded an interest in Block CA1 in 2003, but exploration activities were put on hold pending border negotiations between Malaysia and Brunei. Following a successful resolution, exploration drilling is to resume in 2013.
