The Chaza-1 well has encountered a high quality gas bearing reservoir. In a water depth of 950 metres, the discovery is found about 200 kilometres south of the Pweza and Chewa gas discoveries. The partnership of Shell (60% and operator) and Ophir Energy plc (40%) have had exploration successes in all four wells so far drilled in Tanzania, with mean total gross recoverable resources currently estimated to be approaching some 7 tcf of gas.
