Project Profile

Value: Undisclosed
Location: Off the east coast of peninsular Malaysia

Start-up Year: 1Q 2015

The Bergading Complex comprises a central processing platform (CPP), a bridge and a wellhead platform. The Bergading Complex is part of the full field development project in North Malay Basin, which Hess operates under a production sharing contract with PETRONAS. The offshore installation of the Bergading facilities is scheduled to take place by the end of 2011. The North Malay Basin project, comprising nine gas fields about 300 km (186 miles) off the east coast of peninsular Malaysia, is aimed at securing new gas supplies for Petronas as it faces a supply crunch. Petronas awarded production sharing contracts (PSC) for three fields to Hess Corp and its own exploration arm, Petronas Carigali. One was an amended PSC, while the others were new exploration PSCs with a 50:50 equity split between the two firms.

In general, PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd and Hess Exploration and Production Malaysia B.V. have signed contracts to move forward with the North Malay Basin gas development project. PETRONAS is to invest US$5.2 billion in the project over the next five years to commercialise 1.7 tcf of gas reserves. Hess will have a 50% working interest and become operator of the project. The project will require a net investment for Hess of approximately US$250 million in 2012 and an estimated US$400 million per year between 2013 and 2015. The first new contract amends the production sharing agreement regarding offshore Plans are for nine stranded gas fields to be made commercial in conjunction with new gas gathering, processing, and transportation hub. All together, the project calls for 300 km (186 mi) of pipeline and a new onshore slug catcher with acid gas removal. The Phase 1 early production system will be followed by the Phase 2 full-field development. First gas in the early production phase is targeted for 1Q 2013 at 11 MMcf/d. That will rise to 300 MMcf/d in 2Q 2015 with the completion of the second phase.
